Teen Patti Rules: Hand Ranking, Sequence and Pure Sequence vs Trail

October 3, 2026 · Yono Rummy

Teen Patti ("three cards") is a popular Indian card game that is similar to three-card poker. It is played with one 52-card deck, and every player receives three cards.

How a round works

  1. Every player puts in a fixed starting amount (the boot) to create the pot.
  2. Three cards are dealt to each player.
  3. Players take turns to bet "blind" (without seeing cards) or "seen" (after looking at cards), raise, or fold.
  4. When two players are left, either can ask for a "show". The better hand wins the pot.

Pure sequence vs trail: which is better?

In Teen Patti a trail (three of a kind) beats a pure sequence. A pure sequence (also called a straight flush) is three consecutive cards of the same suit, and it ranks second. A normal sequence is three consecutive cards of mixed suits and ranks third. Note that a "pure sequence" in Teen Patti is not the same idea as a pure sequence in rummy - see the rummy pure sequence guide.

Tips for beginners

  • Learn the ranking table first - it is the whole game.
  • Do not chase weak hands with big bets.
  • Set a budget before you start. See our responsible gaming guide.
