Rummy Card Points: Card Values and How the Score Is Calculated

September 26, 2026 · Yono Rummy

Understanding rummy scoring matters most in Points Rummy and Pool Rummy. The values below are the ones commonly used (they can differ slightly by app).

Card values

CardPoints
A, K, Q, J, 1010
2 to 9Face value
Joker0

Winner's and losers' scores

The player who makes a valid declaration scores 0 points. Every other player is charged for the cards that are not part of a valid group. If no pure sequence was made, the whole hand is counted.

Maximum points

Most platforms cap the penalty at 80 points per deal, however high the cards in hand are.

Drop points

  • First drop: usually 20 points.
  • Middle drop: usually 40 points.
  • Wrong declaration: usually 80 points.

Example

Suppose when the opponent declares you are left with K♠ (10), 7♦ (7) and 3♣ (3) outside any group. Your score is 10 + 7 + 3 = 20 points.

In Pool Rummy these points keep adding up every round, which makes a low score even more important.
