Points Rummy vs Pool Rummy vs Deals Rummy: Differences and Which to Choose
September 22, 2026 · Yono Rummy
Points, Pool and Deals are the three most popular rummy formats. The card rules are the same in all three - only the scoring and the length of the game change.
Points Rummy
Just one deal. Each point has a fixed value and the result arrives as soon as the round ends. Best for players who want a fast game. See Points Rummy.
Pool Rummy (101 and 201)
Several rounds are played and the scores add up. A player who passes 101 or 201 points is eliminated. This format rewards strategy and patience. See Pool Rummy 101 and Pool Rummy 201.
Deals Rummy
A fixed number of deals (2, 3 or 6) is played. Everyone gets equal chips and the player with the most chips at the end wins. See Deals Rummy.
Comparison
| Format | Deals | Game length | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Points | 1 | Short | Players who want a quick game |
| Pool | Many (until 101/201) | Medium to long | Players who like strategy |
| Deals | Fixed number | Medium | Players who want equal chances |
Beginners usually find Points Rummy the easiest place to start, and can then move on to Pool and Deals.
